Data recovery

As we become more dependant on computers to help run our businesses and households we sometimes tend to forget that there is always a possibility that the hardware contained within will not necessarily last a lifetime and may be prone to malfunction.

Prolonged use of a failing hard disk can lead to irreparable damaged and complete loss of data without options to recover so please see below for advice on how to try and prevent this happening and what to do if the damage has already been sustained.

Preventing catastophic hard disk failures

  1. Always make sure that your data is backed up / copied to another location such as a seperate internal / external hard disk / server / USB Pen Drive etc ...
  2. If you notice a grinding / scraping sound coming from the computer or a louder clicking sound is being heard when your computer is trying to perform a task then switch off the machine and call us straight away.
  3. NEVER try and open the disk itself. Doing so will expose the inner mechanisms to airborn dust particles and destroy it !

Note: Prelonged use of a failing hard disk may lead to the magnetic layer being worn away and your data being lost for good. We strongly advise that you act without delay or you could be faced with a bill of approximately £400 - £4000 to employ a specialist data recovery company to open the disk and perform recovery procedures within a clinically controlled environment (Clean Room).

Recovering your data

The Trusted PC Man uses specialist software to recover customer data from hard disks that have not suffered internal mechanical failures.

If you lose data then there is still a very good chance that we can get it back for you.

What to do if your disk fails ...

  1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RE-FORMAT THE HARD DISK OR RE-INSTALL THE COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM. Doing so may overwrite the file allocation tables and overwrite any recoverable files.
  2. Switch off the computer and call us on 01428 606395.
  3. We will pick up your computers' disk from you and let you know exactly what files are recoverable and a quote will be issued dependant on the amount of data to be retrieved and the amount of time it takes us to perform the recovery.
  4. We will copy the recovered files onto either CD / DVD and deliver them back to you.
  5. We can also assist you by purchasing / installing new hard disks and rebuilding the operating system depending on your specific situation and requirements.
  • Remember to backup your data on a
    regular basis !
